Relaxation and Therapeutic Services at CLM: A Guide for Clients

Massage therapy has become a popular and effective method of promoting wellness. With the wide variety of techniques available, it can be challenging to determine which type is best suited for your specific needs.

At Carole Lilly Massage, we recognize that clients have different massage goals.  It varies from day to day.  One day you may want to relax deeply and one day you may need pain relief.  As a result, we suggest you choose your session based on today’s preference – Relaxation or Therapeutic.  In this article, we will explore the differences between these two approaches and provide guidance on how to choose between them.

Relaxation Services

If you want to let go of stress, relieve muscle tension, and enjoy a full-body, deeply relaxing massage – our relaxation services are for you!  Relaxation sessions aim to induce a state of deep relaxation while reducing stress and tension in both body and mind. For instance, they typically involve gentle strokes using various soothing techniques such as Swedish, Esalen, and Deep Tissue.  These services are a good fit for clients without any specific physical complaints or serious medical conditions.  At CLM, each relaxation service includes your choice of essential oils and heated herbal towels to enhance your experience.  To promote relaxation, all services at CLM are performed in a soothing, spa-like setting with dim lighting and calming music.

Which relaxation service is right for me?

To find which service is just right for you, let’s identify your massage goals and preferences.

  • Experience: If this is your first massage, we’d suggest a CLM Relaxation Massage, Happy Feet, or Happy Hands session.  However, if you have received multiple times, choose the session that best fits your preferences.
  • Pressure:  A CLM Relaxation massage is perfect for clients who want a light to medium pressure.  Deep Tissue is our CLM Relaxation massage with a medium to firm pressure.  An Esalen massage will vary the pressure based on your health history and body’s needs.  Other sessions with a light to medium pressure include:  Hot Stone, Pregnancy, Happy Feet, Happy Hands, and CLM Body Wrap.
  • Full-Body or Specific Area:  If you prefer a session just for your hands or feet, try our Happy Feet or Happy Hands services.  These special sessions devote an entire hour to these overworked areas and you stay fully clothed.  All other relaxation services are full-body.
  • Heat:  Hot Stone massage is a great way to enjoy the healing benefits of heat therapy.  For instance, it helps relieve sore muscles, encourage relaxation, and address arthritis symptoms.
  • Skin Care:  A great skin care routine starts with exfoliation and hydration.  Happy Feet, CLM Body Wrap, and Happy Hands body treatment sessions promote healthy skin care for your whole body.
  • Stretching:  Improve your range of motion and boost your muscle flexibility and strength with our Stretch Me session. Your therapist uses passive stretching techniques from Thai, Sports, and Esalen massage to increase athletic performance. Great to receive before or after a full-body massage. Clients wear loose-fitting clothing.
  • Pain Relief:  Relaxation services are best for tension relief for clients without any specific physical complaint or serious medical condition.  If you are seeking pain relief, try one of our therapeutic services.

Therapeutic Services

Massage Therapy is the manual manipulation of soft tissue to create a desired result – relaxation, pain relief, or increase in range of motion. It is performed by a NC Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist.

Advanced Massage Therapy offers an integrative, whole-body approach to pain relief. CLM Therapeutic Massage Therapists are Nationally Board Certified and have advanced training in multiple modalities and years of experience in working with acute and chronic pain patterns.

If you want to relieve pain, increase mobility, or if you need support for a chronic medical condition – our therapeutic services are for you!  For instance, our therapeutic sessions focus on addressing specific musculoskeletal issues or injuries. This type of service is often recommended by healthcare professionals as part of a treatment plan for individuals recovering from an injury or managing chronic conditions such as arthritis or back pain.

As a result, consult with your physician if you have a specific condition or injury that may benefit from our therapeutic services.  Although we do not file insurance at this time, you may be eligible to use a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) for your sessions.  CLM therapists are happy to work with your doctor as part of your wellness team.

Which therapeutic service is right for me?

To find which service is just right for you, let’s identify your massage goals and preferences.

  • New to Therapeutic Services:  If this is your first visit, we’d suggest scheduling a CLM Therapeutic Massage, First Visit session.  Your first visit includes a fifteen-minute consultation with your advanced massage therapist and a one hour therapeutic massage.
  • Pain Relief:  Our CLM Therapeutic massage is especially helpful for those with chronic pain due to injury, repetitive use, a specific medical condition, scar tissue and inflammatory-related pain.  Your advanced therapist customizes sessions based on individual treatment needs.
  • Increase Mobility:  To let go of stiffness and relieve chronic pain, we recommend a Myofascial Release (MFR) session.  This highly specialized technique uses gentle sustained pressure to release fascial restrictions due to postural holding patterns, repetitive use, injury or scar tissue.
  • Pressure:  A CLM Therapeutic massage and MFR session will vary the pressure based on your health history and body’s needs.  A CranioSacral Therapy (CST) or Lymphatic session is perfect for clients who want a light pressure.
  • Headaches/Migraines/Anxiety:  CST is also a great session for addressing migraine pain.  Your therapist uses light-touch techniques to relax the central nervous system and release tensions deep in the body.  CST also creates a deep sense of calm and improves whole-body health and performance.  Clients wear loose-fitting clothing.
  • Cancer:  If you are currently a cancer patient or are at-risk for Lymphedema – Oncology massage is for you!  This session provides a safe, effective, and deeply relaxing massage from advanced therapists with oncology massage and manual lymphatic drainage training.  Each session is customized based on your individual needs.
  • Edema:  Decrease swelling, pain and adhesions with our Lymphatic massage. Your therapist uses light pressure to improve or restore lymph drainage that has become impaired. A great session before and after surgery.  Clients wear loose-fitting clothing.
  • Full-Body or Specific Area:  Although therapists use an integrative whole-body approach, therapeutic services are specific to a few areas of focus during each session.  Therefore, these are not full-body massage sessions.

Where…It’s All About You!

In conclusion, choosing between therapeutic or relaxation services depends on your individual preferences and massage goals. Whether seeking targeted pain relief or deep relaxation experiences – both approaches offer unique benefits for enhancing overall well-being.  Thank you for making CLM part of your wellness team. We look forward to seeing you soon!
